Frequently Asked Questions about EDF6324 field trip
Back to the field trip homepage
- Q. What flight should I take to and from Europe?
A. The tour begins in Vienna and ends in Geneva or Munich. It is also possible to exit Europe from Vienna or Zurich, but you should not choose these options without first discussing it with one of the tour organisers. Email Ros Smith or phone (03) 9939 0141. You may find your own flight, or contact our travel agent, Kathy Clarke on (03) 9532 4928 on Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday, or email kathy_clarke@travel-associates.com.au. Do not purchase your flight tickets until we have confirmed that we have the numbers to proceed with the tour.
- Q. Do I have to take all the classes?
A. Monash music education students are expected to attend all classes. Others can decide whether or not to attend. At the Orff Institute and Dalcroze Institute, where we are mainly observing, it is possible to attend for some of the classes only. At the Kodály Institute, where a program has been designed especially for us, you must attend all classes for the week if you decide to do the course. You will also need an appropriate music background to be able to benefit from these classes. Those who don’t do the classes are welcome to attend the concert, school visit, and possibly some lectures.
- Q. How much spending money should I take with me?
A. We suggest having available a minimum of $45 per day to cover food and incidentals. This does not cover shopping or extra concerts, tours etc. Some people will manage to spend less than this, some will need more.
- Q. What currencies will we use? How should I carry/ access my funds?
A.You will need Swiss francs in Switzerland , Euros in Austria , and Forint in Hungary . It is handy to have a small amount of Swiss francs and Euros when we first arrive, so you may want to buy some in Australia . It is obviously risky to carry large amounts of cash with you. ATMs are easy to find in all the places we stay, and you can also use travel cards or travellers’ cheques. The most important thing is to have two or preferably 3 alternative sources of funds available to you, eg cash and two cards. It sometimes happens that a credit card will not work for a while, for no apparent reason.
