Secondary Education courses

A secondary teaching qualification will give you the skills and knowledge to become a specialist curriculum teacher in secondary schools. Monash is renowned for producing high quality secondary school educators.  Secondary Education studies focus on: adolescent learning and the nature of education, classroom teaching and practice in schools, education and its relationship to society, and curriculum planning, implementation and evaluation.  You will also complete units which qualify you to teach up to Year 12 in two specialist teaching areas.

Which Secondary Education course is right for me?

The following options will help you choose the right course to suit your background and career aspirations.

Undergraduate courses (your first degree)

Graduate Entry Teaching courses (you already have a bachelor degree)

Monash offers a Master of Teaching (Secondary) course for people who have completed a bachelor degree.  The bachelor degree must include the appropriate combination of majors/minors to qualify for two teaching specialist areas.

Professional placements

Whether you are studying a four year Bachelor of Education (Secondary) double degree or a Master of Teaching, you will gain professional teaching experience throughout your program. The Faculty's Partnerships and Placements office organise each placement.  Students complete placements in a range of settings in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Australia. There are also exciting placement opportunities available in South Africa and the Cook Islands.

The professional placement program draws the theoretical components of your studies together with the practical aspects of teaching, giving you first hand teaching experience in the classroom before you graduate.
