How to apply for a graduate course (diplomas and certificates)

Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) applications

Applications for the following graduate level initial teacher education courses are made through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC):

• Graduate Diploma of Education (Early Childhood) - Peninsula
• Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary) - Peninsula, Gippsland
• Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) - Clayton, Gippsland

Students apply online via the VTAC website and send additional hard-copy documentation to VTAC. All this information is then forwarded to us for the selection process. Information about VTAC and how to apply can be found at VTAC website or in the VTAC Guide that becomes available in July every year and can be purchased from newsagents.

Graduates of these courses are eligible to apply for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching. For teacher registration requirements in other states and overseas, please check with your local teacher registration authority.

Extra requirements for VTAC applicants 2010

Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) - Clayton
If you wish to apply for one of the following teaching methods you must complete the relevant section of the online Monash University Supplementary Information form  by 13 November 2009.

• LOTE (Languages Other than English)
• ESL (English as a Second Language)

Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) - Gippsland
If you wish to take one of your teaching methods via on-campus mode at the Clayton campus you must complete the relevant section of the online Monash University Supplementary Information form by 13 November 2009.

Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary) - Gippsland, Peninsula
All applicants must complete the relevant section of the online Monash University Supplementary Information form by 13 November 2009.

Selection Policy

• Prerequisites
  • Completion of an approved degree or equivalent diploma
  • Satisfying the requirements for Secondary Teaching Specialisms (Teaching Methods), if applying for the Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary)
• Selection criteria based on:
  • Academic merit determined by Grade Point Average (GPA) and/or post-secondary academic record
  • The availability of supervision and teaching practice facilities
  • Proof of English Proficiency
  • Supporting information submitted via the online supplementary form, if required

Direct entry applications

Two graduate courses can be applied for by direct entry. These are not initial teacher training courses and do not meet the requirements for initial teacher registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.

• Graduate Diploma of Education (Professional Development Studies)
• Graduate Certificate of Education (Professional Development Studies)
