English language requirements for Postgraduate courses
Note:
- English language requirements and academic requirements must both be fulfilled to be considered for admission into a postgraduate course.
- Any test scores must be no more than 2 years old at the time of commencement of the course of intended enrolment.

Applicants to postgraduate courses which do not include a practicum need to provide evidence of how they fulfil the minimum English language requirements in one of the three ways listed below:
- Satisfactory completion of study in an English medium institution# to tertiary level as specified by (i) or (ii) below:
- Secondary schooling was entirely in English in an English medium institution# and satisfactory completion of at least one of the following in an English medium institution#:
- An undergraduate degree
- The equivalent of at least 72 Monash University credit points (3 full time semesters of study) of a university degree or Australian TAFE diploma (or equivalent)
- At least the equivalent of 48 Monash University credit points (one year full time) of postgraduate study
- If secondary schooling was not conducted entirely in English in an English medium institution#, applicants need to show satisfactory completion of at least one of the following in an English medium institution#:
- An undergraduate degree completed within five years prior to the commencement of the course of intended enrolment;
- The equivalent of at least 72 Monash University credit points (3 full time semesters of study) of a university degree or Australian TAFE diploma (or equivalent) completed within two years prior to the commencement of the course of intended enrolment.
- The equivalent of 48 Monash University credit points (one year full time) of postgraduate study completed within two years prior to the commencement of the course of intended enrolment
#An English medium institution is one where English is the language of instruction and assessment for the entire institution. Documentary evidence in the form of a letter or transcript is required from the institution at which the study was undertaken.
- A score on an English language proficiency test meeting one of the following sets of minimum requirements:
- An overall IELTS (academic) score of at least 6.5 with at least 6.5 on Reading and Listening and at least 6.0 on Writing and Speaking;
- A TOEFL score in one of the following categories:
- Paper-based TOEFL score of at least 580 with a TWE of at least 4.5
- Internet-based score of at least 90 with at least 22 on Writing and at least 20 on Speaking, Listening and Reading.
- Successful completion of the Monash University English Language Bridging Program (MUELBP), at the appropriate level, or of another program approved as equivalent

- International Education
- Leadership, Policy And Change
- Literacy Studies
- Mathematics and Science Education
- Music Education
- Teaching English To Speakers Of Other Languages—International
- Teaching Languages Other Than English
- Work and Learning Studies
- Postgraduate Certificate in Mentoring and Coaching
- Postgraduate Certificate in Organisational Leadership

Applicants to postgraduate courses which include a practicum need to provide evidence of substantial proficiency in English, since they will be working with real clients or students. Note that the Faculty reserves the right to assess oral proficiency through a separate interview.
Applicants can fulfil the minimum English language requirements in one of the two ways listed below.

Satisfactory completion of at least three years of study in an English medium institution# at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level (if postgraduate, at least one year of full-time study is required). If the applicant’s secondary schooling was not entirely in English medium, these three years of tertiary studies must have been completed within five years prior to the commencement of the course of intended enrolment;
# An English medium institution is one where English is the language of instruction and assessment for the entire institution. Documentary evidence in the form of a letter or transcript is required from the institution at which the study was undertaken.

A score on an English language proficiency test meeting one of the following sets of minimum requirements:
- An overall IELTS (academic) score of at least 7 with at least 6.5 on Reading and Listening and at least 7.0 on Writing and Speaking;
- An internet-based TOEFL score of at least 100 with at least 22 on Listening and Reading and at least 25 on Writing and Speaking.

- Inclusive and special education (if practicum is taken)

- Master of Psych (Educational & Development)/PhD;
