HDR seminars

Every year the Faculty of Education runs a set of HDR seminars for its research students. These HDR seminars are free to all PhD, MEd (Research) and Honours students enrolled in the Faculty at any of the campuses.

Sessions run monthly on Fridays at Clayton, Room 110 (TLS main Seminar Room), or via Adobe Connect (see Attending sessions via Adobe Connect below).

Writing Excellent Abstracts
Abstracts are the first thing people read, yet the last item you write. Through a variety of examples we look at what makes a good abstract an effective invitation to readers and a stand-alone unit of the most important information.

Academic presentations - Strategies and Ideas
Presentations in various forms - conferences, the three presentations required in a PhD candidature, seminars and lectures - are part of our academic lives. This session discusses how to engage your audience when presenting complex ideas and theories.

Working towards confirmation (Part II) - Mapping the territory: Beyond the introduction Friday 23 August 10am - 12pm
Qualitative and quantitative research - Writing about your research approach and design Friday 20 September 10am - 12pm

Attending sessions via Adobe Connect

If you are unable to attend a session at Clayton campus, you can participate in that session virtually via Adobe Connect from Peninsula, Room A3.03, as well as from overseas locations.

  • Go to http://mufoed.adobeconnect.com/hdr/ (This link is only active when a meeting is in progress.)
  • Login as "guest" (You can choose your screen name but you must log in as 'guest'.)

Student participation is encouraged

Students are encouraged to bring their own questions and share strategies and ideas about their own research project.

We highly value your scholarly contribution and we are once again inviting HDR students to be part of the Panel of Presenters in individual sessions, thereby contributing to the discussion in a more pronounced manner.

If you are interested in co-presenting in any of the sessions, please contact us.

Unable to attend?

If you are unable to take part in a session because of work or other commitments, video recordings of the sessions will be available through Adobe Connect. In addition, electronic copies of all materials used will be available in the ‘HDR 2013’ folder on Moodle (access via my.monash portal) immediately before the commencement of each session.
