Clinical placement supervision

For each placement, students will have two supervisors:

  1. A field supervisor: an on-site supervisor who is registered as a psychologist and supervisor, as well as being an APS College member.
  2. A university supervisor: an academic who will monitor student's progress through the placement, who is responsible for evaluating the academic requirements of the placement unit and who can act as a back up supervisor if required.

Students should receive at least one hour of individual supervision from their field supervisor per day of placement (including both client-contact and associated activities).

Students are required to attend practicum discussion meetings at the university from time to time as indicated.

In some instances it may be advisable to hold a mid-placement meeting involving the student, field supervisor and university supervisor.

If you have some kind of difficulty, let your University Supervisor or the Psychology Programs Administrator know of it as soon as it arises. This approach will be most effective in finding solutions to problems and enabling you to enjoy your placement.
