Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) for 2009

Course overview

The course prepares graduates for teaching in secondary schools and provides them with the opportunity to build on strengths developed in their undergraduate degree. Students must ensure that they qualify for two single methods or one double method. Eligibility for a single method usually requires two years of study in the discipline and for a double method three years of study in the discipline. The Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) requires the successful completion of units totalling 60 credit points. The study equivalent to achieve 60 credit points would normally be 1.25 years of full time study; however this course has been structured to allow completion in just 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time. This is made possible by the incorporation of a 12 credit point study overload. The course includes a maximum of 50 days of satisfactory field placements in a variety of educational settings. Graduates of this course will qualify students for registration as a secondary teacher with the Victorian Institute of Teaching. For registration in other Australian states or overseas, please check with local authorities.
