Sandbox sessions

The sandbox is a place for creativity and collaboration. In the sandbox sessions, we aim to stimulate the sharing of ideas for effective online teaching.

eLearning Designers will be at your side to help you develop your Blackboard site, set up an effective online discussion and explore other technologies. No problem is too small!

Project Description

An action research project to enhance teaching and learning for off campus students through the following objectives:

  • Promote a strong positive culture in regard to Off Campus Learning in the Faculty of Education.
  • Achieve excellence in distance and flexible pedagogies for teaching and research induction.
  • Produce high quality materials for distance and flexible teaching and research induction.
  • Develop staff capacity in the use of web based platforms to enhance the formation of learning and research communities and collaboration.
  • Integrate administrative processes between OCL and academic and administrative staff across the Faculty of Education.

The OCL Project Showcase, held on March 17 2009, features a range of presentations illustrating how excellence in distance and flexible pedagogies can be achieved. There is something for the techno-novice to the experienced Blackboard user and more!

Do you need help with online flexible teaching?

If you need help with your online teaching, please contact the OCL Project eLearning Designer on your campus. They can help with:

  • uploading documents to your Blackboard page
  • setting up a webcam
  • creating small videos for a Blackboard unit
  • video conferencing using Skype

Successful completion of this project will lead to the following outcomes:

  • The creation of 'The Online Teaching Centre' - a web-based repository for examples of innovative ideas and practices that will both showcase excellence in off-campus teaching and research, and provide a resource for new staff and materials development subsequent to the project.
  • Improved Education Faculty contribution to University rankings on important external indices such as Unit Evaluations, MEQ, Monquest, Attrition and Retention data indicate increased OCL student satisfaction.
  • A positive feedback survey indicating a high level of satisfaction relating to the support and advice provided to staff.
