Research Induction and Degrees Committee

This Committee is a Standing Committee of the Faculty Board and advises the Dean and the Associate Dean Research Degrees & Induction. It is responsible for oversight of research training in the Faculty, drafting relevant Faculty policy in relation to research induction and making recommendations to Faculty Board on research induction policy and on relevant courses and units.

Up to 2007 the committee was known as the Research Induction Committee.

Meetings 2009

The Committee will normally meet a minimum of five times per year as required.

Reporting

Membership of the Committee, agendas and minutes will be placed on the Faculty Web site, at least one full working day prior to meetings. Reports will be made to Faculty Board twice annually.

Note: If any campus is un-represented, this can be addressed through the selection of the Dean’s nominees. Associate Dean Research and Associate Dean Teaching will have right of attendance on this Committee to ensure dissemination of information between this Committee, Research Committee and Curriculum Committee.

Term of Office

Elected members will normally hold office for two years and nominated members for one year.

Terms of Reference

  1. To contribute to the implementation of the Faculty of Education’s Operational Plan
  2. To enhance supervision and research induction practices within undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree programs and develop a culture of research induction in the Faculty
  3. To develop an annual work plan for approval by the Faculty Executive
  4. To develop and maintain a policy framework for evaluating and monitoring supervision practices and completion rates of Faculty staff for research pathway and research degree programs
  5. To recommend to Faculty Executive on budget and resource requirements to support research induction in the Faculty
  6. To o develop, in consulation with ADTs, policy and procedures for the Faculty’s pathways to HDR programs (BEd Hons and MEd Coursework)
  7. To develop and monitor adherence to policies for evaluating and enhancing research supervision within the Faculty
  8. To recommend to Faculty Board on the admission and progress of research Masters and the award of scholarships
  9. To review, develop policy and monitor policies for thesis examination processe

Terms of reference will be evaluated after two years.
