Equity and Diversity Committee

This is an Advisory Committee to the Dean and Faculty Executive, and annually to Faculty Board. It is to act as a communication channel between the University, committees and the students and staff of the Faculty.

The Chair of the Faculty Committee is a member of Faculty Executive, and represents the Faculty on the University's Inclusive Practices Workplace Equity Committee, which in turn reports to the University's Equal Opportunity Committee of Council.

Meetings 2009

The Committee will normally meet a minimum of four times per year. Meetings of the Committee shall be open meetings and observers are welcome.

Reporting

Reports of meetings shall be forwarded to the each of the five policy committees for noting and action as needed, and to Executive Committee for receipt and noting. Minutes of meetings will be available on the Faculty Web site.

Terms of Office

The term of office shall be two years with no more than one half of the members retiring in any one year except for co-opted members where the term of office shall be one year.

Terms of Reference

  1. To report to the Dean and Faculty Board on University equity and diversity policies, strategies and programs that will enable the University to provide equal opportunity in employment and education
  2. To advise on policy, objectives and programs concerning equity, access and affirmative action matters within the Faculty
  3. To develop and implement strategies to assist Faculty in meeting equity, access and affirmative action objectives
  4. To disseminate information and promote effective communication and understanding of the principles of equity, access and affirmative action throughout the Faculty, both to students and staff
  5. To identify issues of transition affecting students in the Faculty of Education and make recommendations to Education Committee on strategies for attending these
  6. To ensure and oversee contact points on each campus for students in need of special support
  7. To promote the implementation of the Faculty's transition program
  8. To identify issues within the Faculty that need to be addressed in relation to equal opportunity and affirmative action affecting staff in the Faculty of Education and make recommendations to Staff Committee on strategies for attending these
  9. To monitor the achievement of a working and learning environment free of harassment and discrimination
  10. To advise the Monash Transition Committee and the Transition Steering Group
  11. To prepare the Faculty Equity & Diversity Initiatives and Progress Annual Report to Equal Opportunity Committee on behalf of the Faculty.
