Abstract:
Nina Crone was principal of Melbourne Girls Grammar School from 1975 to 1994. Between 1982 and 1997, using the nom de plume Alison Dalrymple, she penned numerous articles on plants and gardens, and their histories, that were published in the pages of The Age newspaper. This complete collection of articles, and previously unpublished writings, has been brought together in this beautifully illustrated book. Entrancing stories and factual accounts of how botanical specimens touch lives, alter human destiny, and provide spiritual nourishment are told with intelligence and panache. Based on her own travels, Nina also transports the reader around the globe to magnificent public gardens with diverse botanical landscapes. In the Foreword, Anne Latreille (former editor of the gardening section of The Age) remarks:
"It is the usual fate of newspaper articles to be read, enjoyed….then discarded and forgotten. [This book] ensures that Nina’s work lives on"
