Abstract:

Writing = Learning examines the role of writing in various teaching and learning contexts. After an introduction that explores sociocultural relationships between writing and learning, chapters are grouped into one of three sections: 'Professional learning', 'Counterpoint' or 'School Writing'. Some authors investigate the ways in which students' writing can be conceptualised in order to enhance students' engagement in their learning. Some look at the ways that students' writing can be responded to and assessed by teachers in order to improve learning. And others inquire into teachers' professional writing and how it can be utilised to enrich their professional learning. Writing=Learning affirms the professional knowledge, practice and engagement of English teachers in the face of recent media attacks on the profession.
