With a strong interdisciplinary and comparative character, this strength spans language and literacy, sociology, cultural studies and policy studies. While its members draw on diverse theoretical perspectives, they share an interest in education's relationship to culture and identity, diversity and power, and socio-cultural and political change. Covering a broad range of educational settings, institutions and systems, members’ interests include language (e.g. TESOL, LOTE, ‘global’ English), literacy, technology and media studies, international education, globalisation, and educational and socio-cultural and socio-economic differences. Researchers are active in reformulating analytical frameworks in education from diverse perspectives; in exploring non-traditional approaches to knowledge in and about education; and developing positive ethical challenges to unjust socio-cultural arrangements in education.
