Teaching commitment

Biography

My research focuses on how education responds to issues of sustainability, climate change and the preservation of local and global ecological systems. I am interested in how teachers can create opportunities for teaching and learning about place to provide a platform for children to learn about the ecological systems that support healthy food crops and healthy soils, and which ultimately sustain them.

Research Interests

I am interested in alternative learning environments such as school grounds, food gardens, and local natural sites that include water and foodsheds.

Professional Associations

  • Australian Conservation Foundation
  • Australian Association for Research in Education
  • Victorian Association for Environmental Education

Community Service

  • My community work occurs through my role as President of the Warragul and District Landcare Group and Waterwatch. I have been responsible for orchestrating and participating in many tree planting and weeding projects throughout the West Gippsland environs. These projects involve working with local primary schools and the general public to revegetate degraded sites on crown and public land. Waterwatch services include the monitoring of water quality in and around Warragul.
