Teaching commitmentBiographyDr Geoff Romeo is the Associate Dean, Teaching of the Faculty and Editor of Australian Educational Computing (AEC). His expertise in the use of ICT in education at all levels to improve teaching and learning, online teaching and learning, the development of primary and middle school curriculum, action research, design based research, activity theory, and education in general. The current focus of his research is on the design of technology rich teaching and learning environments. Dr Romeo is the immediate past president of ICT in Education Victoria, Publications Officer for the Australian Council for Computers in Education (ACCE) and a former member of the Standards Council of the Teaching Profession. These connections and responsibilities bring him into contact with a wide range of academic, department and school personnel at a national and international level. As Publications Officer and the Editor of AEC he oversees an impressive editorial board that includes the top ICT researchers, commentators and tertiary teachers in the country. He was the chief researcher on the Touchscreen Project conducted in schools and kindergartens in 2002. He was involved at a senior level in the development of, and research into, InterLearn, an online teaching and learning tool for the entire Monash community and is currently, involved in various DEEWR projects including, Coordination of the Monash ICT node delivering expert advice to DEEWR, the examination of exemplary use of ICT in a range of schools across Australia, and the Australian School Innovation in Science, Technology and Mathematics (ASISTM) Project as a critical friend, and various other research projects including a partnership with the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. Dr Romeo has presented the findings of his research at conferences, seminars and workshops in Australia, the United Kingdom, Hungary, USA, Singapore, Denmark, South Africa, Qatar and Chile and in 2004 was awarded state and national prizes for his leadership in ICT in education.
