The CROSSLIFE project methodology is a collaborative one. The CROSSLIFE grant agreement identifies three aims:
- To deepen integration of research and teaching between universities, increasing mobility of university students and teachers, and strengthening links between universities and working life and society at large.
- To develop a research-based study programme to enhance, and support the development of, academic and professional experts with qualitatively new capacity and competence to develop and manage educational processes at trans-national level, with a focus on connections between lifelong learning, industry and work.
- To build on the developmental and implementation stage, so that the CROSSLIFE programme is eligible as a Erasmus Mundus MA programme in the calls during 2006-08.
These aims were addressed through a number of interconnected but discrete activities, as shown in Figure 1 below.

Each of these activities entailed a collaborative and cross-cultural approach. It meant that the design and implementation of the learning pathway also provided a context for researching the competence and capacities required to support cross-cultural collaborative research and educational work in globally connected times.
