How complete and relevant is this course information?

  • The following coursemap was provided for students commencing studies in 2009.
  • Students who commenced their studies prior to 2010 should check their course requirements in the Archived handbook for the relevant year, or contact their Course/Pathway Adviser.

This pathway, available only to cohorts, is designed for teachers who wish to upgrade their professional practice in LOTE classes and educators who wish to pursue research in bilingual or second language education. Specialist studies include: LOTE methodology; advanced practicum in LOTE language teaching; and issues in curriculum design and assessment in second and foreign languages.

Notes:

  1. Research core unit must be selected from the Faculty suite of research methodology units on advice from the course coordinator or supervisor.
  2. EDF6224 is mandatory for those teachers wishing to be fully qualified for employment with the Department of Education and Training who have not already qualified to teach LOTE. Qualified LOTE teachers only may choose another Masters unit relevant to their course as approved by Course Adviser.

Students may graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma of Education - Teaching Languages Other Than English (LOTE) specialisation after completing 48 credit points comprising of the following units:

  • ONE unit (12pts) from:
    • Research core unit OR
    • EDF6010 Professional project (A) OR
    • EDF6020 Professional project (B)
  • EDF6223 LOTE methodology (12pts)
  • EDF6224 Advanced practicum in language teaching: LOTE (12pts)
  • EDF6234 Curriculum design and evaluation in languages education (12pts)
