BiographyDr. Corrigan was the Associate Dean (Teaching), Faculty of Education, Monash University. In this role she was responsible for the review and development of all award courses offered by the Faculty. The Faculty of Education at Monash takes the broadest possible view of Education and consequently is involved in teacher education, community, professional and organizational capacity building. Such a perspective is evident from the breadth of award courses offered by the Faculty. In her own experience, Dr Corrigan reflects this breadth with her work involved in maximizing learning opportunities in a variety of settings such as schools, industry and the community. Her PhD thesis focused on the technology and industry links with chemistry curriculum and she implemented and taught in the Teacher Release to Industry Program (TRIP) at Monash University. In addition her Masters thesis was a case study approach to the development and implementation of management systems in organizations.
Her experience in the management of staff in a variety of settings both locally, nationally and internationally has lead to her involvement in mentoring experiences in a variety of settings. These include university, community and international programmes for a variety of professionals that include teachers, chemical educators, industry personnel and parents. Dr Corrigan recently developed the Master in Mentoring and Coaching for the Faculty of Education.
Dr Corrigan has previously been the Director of Undergraduate and Preservice Programs at Monash University. In this role she has been involved in the review and development of teachers training programs offered by Monash University ranging from Early Childhood through to Adult learning Programs. In addition she has been actively researching in the field of teacher education, particularly in terms of the relationship between teaching and learning, the documentation of professional practice, the development of teaching portfolios and professional standards for teachers both nationally and internationally. She has been on a number of committees that have explored these issues and was a member of the team developing professional standards for Science Teachers, as well as a member of the Victorian Insititute of Teaching Accreditation Committee.
Dr Corrigan has researched and worked extensively in the areas of Science Education, particularly Chemistry Education, and currently is a member of the Science in School Project as both a consultant and member of the Assessment Reference Group. In addition she has worked as a science consultant in a number of action research and curriculum evaluation projects with schools, both metropolitan and country, as well as with the Chemical Industry in developing links with schools. She was a member of teh Victorian Ceritificate of Education (VCE) Chemistry Reference Panel and is a current VCE Chemistry Examinations Setter. She has also published textbooks for Chemistry and Science teachers including the use of learning technologies in science classrooms.
Dr Corrigan was originally a high school Chemistry and Biology teacher and has maintained her close links with schools through CRT work (both primary and secondary), as a school reviewer and as a School Council President of a Primary School and School Councillor in a Secondary School.
