Psychological and educational assessment services

We offer the following psychological assessment services:

  • Cognitive Assessments
  • Gifted and Talented Assessments
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Developmental Disabilities
  • Attention Difficulties
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Behavioural Difficulties

The Krongold Centre specialises in CHC-driven Cross Battery Assessments. These include an intensive Cross Battery Assessment based on the Cattell-Horn-Carroll theory of intelligence. This form of assessment allows for a more comprehensive analysis to be undertaken than is typically available using a single IQ test.

Initial consultation

The assessment process starts with an initial interview. This is an informal session between the psychologist and parent's so that information can be shared and an individualised assessment package targeting specific needs can be recommended.

This discussion will run for approximately 45 minutes and will cover topics such as family constellation, the child's developmental and educational history, as well as their current educational performance, behaviour, emotional and social well-being. Parents are encouraged to bring along recent school reports and/or any relevant documentation from other professionals to this session.

At the conclusion of this meeting parents will know the type of assessment to be done and why, the number of assessment sessions that will be required and the exact cost of the proposed services.

To make your initial interview please contact us on the number provided on the Contacts page.

Assessment

Each assessment session usually takes between 60-90 minutes and 1-4 sessions are usually required to complete an assessment package. Assessment sessions may include intelligence testing, behavioural interviews and observations, testing of memory and learning. This will depend on the nature of the presenting issues.

Case conference and report

Following the assessment session/s, a final meeting will be scheduled to discuss the assessment results. At this stage a comprehensive report, including a summary of the results along with recommendations and strategies will be provided.

Follow-up counselling

Follow-up counselling for clients of the assessment service is available when parents may need additional support implementing recommendations. For example, centre staff can work with parents and children on issues such as self-esteem, study skills and motivation, resilience, friendship issues and behaviour management planning.

Research participation

The Krongold Centre is dedicated to cutting edge research and practice. Clients of the assessment service may be invited to participate in research projects conducted under the supervision of Krongold and Faculty of Education staff. In the event you or your child should be invited to participate in a research project a full explanation of the projects and its aims will be provided. You will also be able to ask any questions about the time involved, what will happen to the results and how your participation is likely to help.

Participation in research projects is entirely voluntary. The quality of service offered by Krongold staff is not in any way associated with your willingness to participate in research.

Who performs assessments?

As a university-based centre, practice at the Krongold is informed by the latest research. Our relationship with the university also allows the Krongold Centre to maintain lower fees by providing a place where psychology registrars (also known as provisional psychologists) can practice under supervision. All psychology registrars have done their basic training in psychology and now are completing their specialist training in educational and developmental psychology. All work by registrars is reviewed by supervising psychologists. You may elect to have a registered psychologist conduct the assessment of your child/adolescent, however, higher (full) fees will apply.

If you have any concerns about interns completing work with your child/adolescent please let us know as soon as possible as your appointment may need to be changed.

Costs

The cost of an assessment varies depending on staff involved and the type of assessment.
