Each year Monash University Gippsland Campus presents the Excellence in Disability Support Awards. Staff and students are invited to nominate an academic and general staff member and/or faculty, school or department for exceptional support to a student or staff member with a disability, or for supporting disability issues on the campus.

On Thursday 4th September, eighty-five people were welcomed to the awards presentation breakfast by the Gippsland campus new PVC, Professor Helen Bartlett. In an uplifting and animated presentation the guest speaker, Bronwyn Roberts, actively introduced the audience to laughter as a therapy that engenders good health and setting the mood for a great day to follow for all.

Through the generous support of departments, schools and faculties at Gippsland Campus and the Pro-Vice Chancellors Office, two student awards are also made. Students with a long-term medical condition or disability often excel at University but are hindered by their condition in attaining scholarships. In recognising this, such students can apply for one of two awards.

This year the recipients were:

  • Nicole Hall from the Faculty of Education (Academic Excellence Award), and
  • Jaime Lauria from HumCaSS (Academic Excellence Award).
